The challenge of migration

Migration – the movement of peoples away from the country of their birth – is a feature of the modern world. In itself it is often positive for the person migrating, and can also be positive for the country they migrate to. But when termed Immigration rather than Migration, and when viewed from the viewpoint of the recipient country’s host population, it is more often seen as problem, and can lead to very divisive politics, with many in the West in particular overtly hostile to immigration and immigrants. What, if anything, can be done about this?

Central Banks in an era of Climate uncertainty

Our readers will not need us to tell them that we live in a time of heightened uncertainty and tension. With wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, economic hardships in much of the West due to inflation and high interest rates, and volatile and unsettled weather patterns across the globe, there is much to cause concern. For central banks trying to steer economies between the Scylla of inflation and the Charybdis of recession there are few easy answers. And if anything the questions are getting more urgent and challenging.
