Reviving an endangered language: the case of Faroese

Halfway between Scotland and Iceland is the small archipelago of the Faroe Islands, a country of spectacular scenery (some of which beggars belief – for example 2,500-foot sea cliffs and vertical-sided islands with dramatic peaks and promontories), and an ancient and unusual language, Faroese, a rare example of a language which has been completely revived from the state of near extinction.
